SCC Training Programs
The Simonton Cancer Center offers an internationally acclaimed training program in cancer counseling based on the unique approach developed by Dr. O. Carl Simonton. This innovative training program offers an in-depth, personal, hands-on experience in counseling patients with cancer, conducting support groups or sessions, as well as effectively resolving crises encountered by patients and their support persons. The Simonton Cancer Center is an international organization using the agreed upon international counseling standards for cancer patients. The Simonton Cancer Center is also the only international certifying body for the SCC certification of counselors for cancer patients.
The Simonton Method in its current, most evolved form, may be described as a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral self-help therapy for patients with cancer and their support persons. This approach is comprehensive because it directly addresses all spheres of human existence: emotional, cognitive, behavioral, social and spiritual integrated in an internally consistent program. The therapeutic interventions are based on modern learning theory as well as ancient teachings. These include individual, group, family and social counseling as well as education in self-help skills that patients and their support persons may use to effectively resolve problems in all areas of their lives. The training experience is very enriching for therapists of different orientations and can easily be applied in counseling of any group of people facing problems of life threatening proportions.

Many therapists and other health care professionals attend the Initial Programming in
Level 1or 2, simply because they wish to add more 'tools to their toolbox'.
This training program is currently offered in Los Angeles (California), Japan, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany. It is organized primarily around our five-day residential patient sessions under the leadership of certified teaching and supervising therapists. The teachings in our virtual program are based on this format.

1. SCC Counseling Therapist Level / U.S requires successful completion of 3 patient session
Level 1
- Training involves the student engaged in and working the program alongside our patients population. You will be responsible for following/observing 1or 2 couples throughout the program. This level is for those seeking SCC certification and those looking for more education in the field.
- Level 2
- Training involves private, group and experiential work in which you will have opportunity to work in the areas of Belief, Imagery, Stress and Secondary Gains and Inner Wisdom. In this format you will engage and study more extensively with other interns in your group under supervision and begin to learn specific homework exercises taught here in the program.
- Level 3
- Training involves completion of your third patient session week with engagement that will show your level of proficiency with these concepts. You will be required to follow 2-3 couples. Supervision remains a requirement after completion and certification. Additional requirements and expectations will be discussed beforehand and Certification is based on competency.
