Simonton Cancer Center Unveils New Website
In February the Simonton Cancer Center unveiled a new state-of-the-art website dedicated to improving the health and lives of cancer patients and their families around the world. It includes a "new and improved" bookstore and media center, along with a variety of self-help resources available for download. In addition to serving the thousands who have benefitted from the Simonton program, this new website will eventually become a resource center for physicians, therapists and practitioners. How the new website came to be is an interesting story in itself. An individual participating in the first patient session after Dr. Simonton’s death happened to be a web designer. He and his wife were so positively impacted by the program that he was moved to donate his professional web design services in honor and memory of Dr. Simonton and his work. Dr. Simonton Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Shortly before his death, Dr. O. Carl Simonton was the recipient of the Cancer Recovery Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award. Foundation founder and CEO, Greg Anderson (pictured at right with Dr. Simonton) states: "It is my belief that Carl came to realize in his ground-breaking theories and years of clinical experience a new level of awareness and understanding concerning the mind's role in healing." The Foundation's German affiliate also established a scholarship fund to benefit the work of the Simonton Cancer Center in Germany. The Simonton Cancer Center is deeply grateful to Greg Anderson and the Cancer Recovery Foundation for this award, the scholarship funds, and their on-going support of Dr. Simonton’s work.
Lawrence LeShan Joins Simonton Board
The Simonton Cancer Center is proud to announce the newest member of their Board of Directors, Lawrence LeShan, PhD. A research and clinical psychologist, Dr. LeShan has worked with cancer patients for over forty years. His pioneering research in psychological factors in cancer has led him to be called "The father of mind-body medicine." He has published sixteen books, including Cancer As A Turning Point and How to Meditate (which have both become classics in their fields), and You Can Fight for Your Life, an early work about psychology and cancer. Dr. LeShan has directed research projects and received numerous awards, including the Normal Cousins Award for Development of Human Relations in Psychology and Medicine. We warmly welcome Larry to the Board!
